The Nike Air Skylon II: Why Is It Still On The Shelf?

This is a beautiful shoe. Why has it not sold out yet?

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

For those that remember, I wrote an article about the announcement of this particular shoe, called the Nike Air Skylon II. I think it is the best shoe ever (for runners, anyway). From the ultra-bold colors, to the sleek & simple design of the shoe itself, the Skylon II is built to win.

But when the shoes released a couple of weeks ago, they did not sell out immediately (as I anticipated). As a consumer, this is good, because I may be able to grab a pair; however, this is not a good sign, due to the massive amount of hype surrounding the pre-release of the shoe.

I do think that what is going to happen is that it is going to take a high profile brand to collaborate with Nike to make this shoe become a more present and viable contender in the market of sneakers. Enter Fear of God. The shoes above is the collaboration with Nike on the Skylon II that is scheduled to release in the fall of 2018. This release is what will help to propel the Skylon II into the spotlight. Then, all it will take is to release more and more colorways and hues to keep the party going.

But for now, let’s enjoy the ones we have and get them now, because once the rest of the population comes to the party, we won’t have a chance to get to them any longer.

Swoosh Up & Swoosh Down : News About Nike

Gains and losses were made at NIKE in the past two weeks.

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

If you are anyone who knows about sneakers, you know NIKE is the TOP of the hill, per this chart.

Let’s start off with the good part of the news: Nike’s founder and Chairman Emeritus Phil Knight, just donated close to $1B in NIKE stock to a charitable organization. I hope to know what that organization is in the near future, but for now, it shows that Phil Knight is all about being philanthropic. You should check out the book, Shoe Dog, which is his memoirs of how he started Blue Ribbon Sports, which eventually evolved into NIKE.

###

Now, let’s get to the sad news: Sandy Bodecker, the man who organized what we know of today as Nike SB, passed away on October 3rd. It was very interesting to see this because I JUST read an interview with him. He seemed like a very humble dude. If you like SB’s, then this is the man that is responsible for all of those wonderful collaborations and colorways. Requiescat in pace.

Inside Out: Going Above & Beyond The Deconstructed Shoe

Is turning your shoes inside out the new sneaker trend, or is it just an avant-garde art piece?

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

Before I begin, I just want to say thank you to everyone that has been following my articles here at Day & A Dream. I hope that you all have enjoyed reading them as much as I have been writing them. I will continue to write for Day & A Dream as long as they will continue to post my pieces, mainly because they were one of the few publications that rode with me, even when I was on my writing hiatus from trying to do my own blog. The staff here is the greatest and I just wanted to publicly acknowledge that, while expressing my gratitude.

::applause::

OK, now that we got that out of the way, let’s talk about destroying sneakers! If that statement just made you wince, then I KNOW you are a real life 100% sneakerhead through and through. The only time that you would want to talk about the untimely demise of a sneaker is when you:

  1. get mad at your favorite sneaker designer (I’m looking at you, Kanye!)
  2. get mad at a player who is fighting racial injustice (#IMWITHKAP)
  3. when they become burnt out beaters.

That’s not what this article is about though.

This is about intentionally deconstructed sneakers; shoes that have been turned inside out. The pair that I posted above: the Nike SF AF-1 Mids, scheduled to release in December 2018, is an example of this kind of sneaker. NIKE did a great job replicating the steps that go between the sample production stage and the final product stage, showing revision/tailoring marks normally made to indicate what needs to be corrected in the final look of that shoe that will eventually go in store. #metashoe

Now, check out some of the other examples that I found online and if we missed anything, then feel free to let us know in the comments below!

Denim & Jersey : Is Hybrid Clothing The New 2019 Trend?

Can this blend of two cottons make for something new & fashion-forward? Let’s see.

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

You know me: I dig streetwear. I also like when brands take chances and do things that are unique. Enter hybrid clothing, as in broad mixed fabrics, colors, and detailing. So, my article is going to be about that:

Case #1: The Vetements x Levi’s Denim Jeans/Track Suit blend. Now, while I am not a fan of the Vetements brand, I do quite enjoy this particular piece. The good thing about these pants is that they are not a whole hybrid, as they are just a section of them. Great way to show the Russian tracksuit influence, mixed with denim. Go check them out here.

Case #2: Another European brand, Bless, does their own interpretation of the jersey-meets-denim combo. Casual in the back, workout in the front. This is more of a hybrid, in that it is literally a half of one brand and half of another. You can find them here, if you are interested.

Case #3: While doing research for this article, I found this brand: SJYP on an Indonesian site. This hybrid jacket is the best execution of the hybrid concept: clean lines and well blended seams. I would highly consider rocking this jacket year round (maybe not Houston summers, but whatevs).

H-Town Still Holdin’: 75th & Canal Strikes Again With New “Still Holdin'” Capsule |@75thNCanalCo

A shirt, some shorts, some stickers, and some shoes. Simple, but not safe.

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

75th & Canal is easily one of my top 3 favorite clothing brands in Houston. Straight up. Mainly because I feel that the founder of the brand, Victor Bernal (fka DJ Prolyfic) and I have built a solid relationship over the years, especially over the last couple of years.

75th & Canal represents a few things, mainly the neighborhood where Bernal grew up, but also, on a macro level, it represents a city that formed and fashioned him. This “Still Holdin'” Collection is an expression of that, in the form of streetwear.

First, the full color designs screen printed across the front of the shirt pays homage to Texas Rap Legend DJ SCREW. Brycedius Sam (@PCA_design) is the talented artist who created the portrait of the deceased DJ.

Next, the simple black athletic shorts are an owner-favorite. White text saying the phrase, “Still Holdin'”, is on the right leg, while a flip of the Nike Swoosh logo, replacing the name brand with “Canal”, is on the left leg.

Finally, the pièce de résistance of this commemorative capsule is, of course, the custom Nike Air Force 1 Lows, which have hand-stitched swooshes and hand painted “Still Holdin'” on the heels of the shoes.

Prices of the various products are listed below:

Nike AF-1s – $185 + tax

T-Shirt – $40

Shorts – $45

Sticker Pack – $10

These items will be available online Friday, June 28th followed by a pop-up shop at 5225 Almeda, Houston TX 77004 (Kaffeine Coffee) from 4-8pm.

More information about the products that will be offered by 75th & Canal Co and the pop up shop can be found at 75thncanalco.com @75thncanalco on all social media platforms.

On 9.15.19, I asked a single question: Of all that you brought today for sale, what would you have the hardest time parting with?

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

Here’s a photo essay that took me some time to prepare for you, about the event that I went to this past Sunday.

Three parties, Dated Faded & Worn, the Dallas/Fort Worth area swap-meet, founded by @B214MAC, Houston local vintage Youtube phenom, @MrPaulCantu, and UK founded app for entrepreneurs, @Depop, partnered to bring the event to fruition.

The event was also co-sponsored/co-signed by all of the following local vendors: @RoundHouse_Vintage, @vintageaffiliated, & @bouncebackhtx.

As you view the photos, remember this question, which was asked of all of these vendors: of all that you brought today for sale, what would you have the hardest time parting with?

Photo essay is in the gallery below.

Special thanks to all who were involved i. making this event happen.

H-Town Sneaker Summit Does It Again For Winter 2019 | @sneakersummit @sneakhersummit

Here’s my recap of the H-Town Sneaker Summit Winter 2019 session. (Spoiler alert: It was fun!)

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

The H-Town Sneaker Summit is the biannual event that I have looked forward too, each year since 2007.

It is a time for people, who consider themselves a part of the sneaker community, to do many things like:

Meet celebrities,

meet artists,

and most of all,

meet fellow sneaker enthusiasts,

Mr. Cooper | @hangnwtmrcooper333

connoisseurs,

3X OG Sneaker Summit Host DJ Oakcliff | @djoakcliff713

and yes, sneaker re-sellers and retailers

It was a fun experience and, even with all the multiple venue changes and the revolving door of vendors, I do look forward to this event.

Finally, a visual representation of serendipity:

This is a picture of DJ Luz (@_QUIUBOLE_ on IG) and I, take around October 2019. Notice that Tool t-shirt?

Same shirt at the H-Town Sneaker Summit, December 2019.

Take care and enjoy your holidays!

Have A Heart: 6 Pairs of Valentine’s Day Themed Sneakers You Should Have In Your Collection |@jumpman23 @nike @EloominahtEE @JoeFreshgoods @StrangeLoveSkts @adidasoriginals

Looking for the right shoe to give to your love for Valentine’s Day? Check these out.

This is D3 The Concrete, bringing you fashion from the street.

Yes, I have been on a long hiatus, but I have returned to bring you some hot fire streetwear and sneaker related articles!

In anticipation of the feast day of the patron saint of love, I decided to put together a list of sneakers to consider for your collection. Some are previous releases, but a couple of them are upcoming. Take a look and tell us, in the comments below, which one is your favorite pair.

Wearing Your Heart On Your Heel?

Check out the first pair:

The brand, NIKE, has a way of taking a concept and making it their own, regardless of its simplicity or complexity. This pair of Air Force 1s is no different.

You can find them on the following link, if you are interested in buying a pair: HERE

Is Your Heart In The Game [Of Basketball]?

Here’s another pair to consider:

Released in 2013, this Jordan Brand retro sneaker has a predominately red upper, with pink highlights on the midsole and a basketball, formed to look like a heart on the lateral side of both shoes

You can find pairs available on the following link: HERE

Hidden Hearts Still Show.

A switch from the swoosh can be found here:

The Three Stripes have struck again, with their own interpretation of the Valentine’s Day theme. One thing about this shoe is that it is a bit less blatant than other sneakers released by adidas’ competitors in the market. You can see the heart, but it is barely peeking out from behind the shoes branding, which makes this shoe all the more appealing.

You can buy the shoe at the following link: HERE

Love Keeps Lifting Me [High]er.

When I first saw the sneakers above, I was infatuated with them. The Nike Air Force 1 High collaboration with Edison Chen’s “Emotionally Unavailable” brand, was a most unique shoe, to say the least. It was a bold step in a direction that showed NIKE was willing to dare to be different. From the heart shaped zipper shroud on the instep, to the hot pink chenille check on the side, this shoe was one that garnered a lot of attention in 2019.

For a below retail pair, go to the following link: HERE

Anatomically Correct, Right?

Full disclosure: I love this shoe. Shoutout to Joe Freshgoods and the #DontBeMad crew for making this shoe, nonchalantly called “Anatomy Of A Heart”. The Chicago based designer partnered with American made brand, New Balance, to come up with this and the Kawhi Leonard signature basketball shoe; however, these are definitely the favorite of the two.

Get more information about the Feb. 14th drop here.

Strangelove, That’s How My Love Goes

Take a look at the last shoe in the list. This pair is glorious. From the all-over crushed velvet and suede upper, to the anatomic heart skull on the lateral heel, to the blood red swoosh, this shoe is bound to turn heads (hearts?). Controversy surrounding the pre-release on the Strangelove Skateboards website, but other retailers are planning on releasing the shoes at the end of this week on Feb. 8th.
